An interview with Richard Nisbett

There are so many more ways of getting people to do what’s in their own interests and society’s interests. Absolutely the most powerful way that we have is to create social influence situations where you see what it is that other people are doing and that’s what you do.

Correlation and causation; confounding variables and self-selection; the importance and limitations of controlled experiments; the problem (or not!) with replication; some really important and pervasive biases and heuristics; confabulation; the biggest lessons from modern social psychology. And more, including some of the stuff in his latest book, Mindware. This will be mandatory viewing in my course, Science+, from now on.

Listen to Nisbett (30 min. video), or read the transcription.
